2018 APLA Advocacy Award Submissions Now Being Accepted

Presented at the Banquet during the Annual Conference, the APLA Advocacy Award, valued at $500, recognizes exemplary library promotion, advocacy and outreach. The Awards Committee, which will consist of the APLA Advocacy Interest Group and a member of the APLA Executive, will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:

2017 Games @ the Library Week

During the week of October 29 - November 4, 2017, APLA is sponsoring "Games @ the Library" week which is also known as la semaine des Jeux @ la bibliothèque in French! Anytime that week, libraries of all types in Atlantic Canada are encouraged to host a "game themed" event of their choice (board games, chess, trivia, scavenger hunts, video games, etc.). Events could be geared towards specific age groups or the whole community. APLA's goal is to show that libraries are places where people meet, learn, and have fun!

Nominations for the 2018 APLA Merit Award are now being accepted.

Presented at the Banquet during the Annual Conference, the APLA Merit Award honours an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to library services in the Atlantic Provinces.

2017 APLA Merit Award Winner

The Atlantic Provinces Library Association is pleased to announce that this year's recipient of the APLA Merit Award is Jocelyne Thompson.

First Timer's Conference Grant

APLA is now accepting applications for our First Timer’s Conference Grant. To be eligible, an applicant must be a personal member of APLA, residing in Atlantic Canada, and planning to attend her/his first APLA annual conference. Grants are allocated, consistent with general APLA guidelines, to help meet conference related expenses. If more applications are received than can be met by the fund, money will be awarded by drawing from the names of all eligible applicants.

Winner of the 2016 Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award

The Board of Trustees for the Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award have presented the 2016 award to Jane Hawco in the amount of $1,500. The award was established in 1984 to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. The annual award is in the memory of long-standing Memorial University Librarian, Margaret Williams. 

Carin Alma E. Somers Scholarship Award Winner

Dear Colleagues,

The Atlantic Provinces Library Association administers the Carin Alma E. Somers Scholarship Trust. This trust provides an annual scholarship, valued at approximately $2,000, in her name to assist a Canadian citizen who is an Atlantic Provinces resident needing financial assistance to undertake or complete the academic requirements leading to a degree in Library and Information Science.
